The National Weather Service has put all 21 counties in New Jersey under a severe thunderstorm watch for Sunday afternoon. The storm could bring wind gusts of up to 70 mph, hail, and frequent lightning.
The watch was issued just after 2 p.m. and will continue until 10 p.m.
Additionally, a flood watch has been issued for parts of 17 counties, including Bergen, northwestern Burlington, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, western Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren. This flood watch lasts until 2 a.m. on Monday.

By 3:45 p.m., storm cells had already begun impacting areas of southern New Jersey.
These thunderstorms began approaching New Jersey on Saturday, following Hurricane Ernesto’s landfall in Bermuda. It caused strong rip currents and hazardous conditions along the entire East Coast, including the Jersey Shore, where lifeguards in several towns were actively performing rescues.
The most severe thunderstorms and strongest winds have been concentrated south of Trenton this weekend.
