Mariah Carey Speaks Out After Shocking Family Loss – Both Mother and Sister Gone in a Day!

Mariah says, “Thank you all for your love, support, and for giving me space during this really hard time.”

Her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, both died on the same day over the weekend, according to PEOPLE. In a statement, the 55-year-old Grammy-winning singer said, “I am heartbroken by the loss of my mother this weekend. Sadly, my sister also died on the same day.”

She also said, “I’m thankful that I could be with my mom during her last week.”

Right now, there are no more details about how Patricia and Alison died.

Patricia was a trained opera singer and vocal coach from Juilliard. She was married to Alfred and they had three children: Alison, Mariah, and Morgan. But they divorced when Mariah was only 3 years old.

Mariah’s relationship with her mother was complex. In her 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she described their relationship as a mix of different feelings and experiences. She said, “Like many parts of my life, my relationship with my mother has never been simple. It’s been a range of emotions, not just black-and-white but like a full rainbow.”

Despite their difficulties, she stayed connected with her mother. In 2010, they reunited for a special on ABC called Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You, where they performed a touching mother-daughter duet.

In Pat’s memoir, Mariah wrote, “And to Pat, my mother, I will love you as best as I can, always.”

But Mariah’s relationship with her sister Alison was also complicated. In her memoir, Mariah said there was a time when it felt safer for me not to have any contact with Alison or their brother Morgan.
