Tulsi Gabbard, who used to be a congresswoman from Hawaii and was part of the Democratic Party, changed to become an Independent. She is now supporting former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, where he is competing against Vice President Kamala Harris.
She said that Americans need to come together against the way politics is being used to get back at people and the misuse of power that puts our freedoms at risk. She warned that we can’t let our country be harmed by politicians who care more about their own power than the well-being of the American people, our freedom, and our future. She made these comments at a National Guard conference in Detroit on Monday.
She started supporting on the 3rd anniversary of the suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
She said, “I’m proud to be here with all of you. If you love this country like I do and value peace and freedom, I ask you to help me do everything we can to save our nation. Let’s work together to elect President Donald J. Trump and bring him back to the White House to help fix our country and serve its people.”
Tulsi Gabbard history
Tulsi Gabbard represented Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district as a Democrat from 2013 to 2021. In 2022, she left the party, calling it an “elitist group of warmongers.” She had also run against Kamala Harris in the 2019 Democratic presidential primary.
Recently, Trump asked her to help him prepare for his debate on September 10th at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia, where he will be debating Vice President Harris.
During a Democratic primary debate, Gabbard strongly criticized Harris, accusing her of imprisoning 1500 Californians for marijuana offenses while later admitting to using the drug herself.
Since leaving the Democratic Party before the 2022 midterms, Gabbard has been a strong critic of her former party. She has often spoken at conservative events, such as the CPAC and the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference.
Tulsi Gabbard’s endorsement came after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ended his 2024 Independent presidential campaign and supported Trump. In his withdrawal announcement, he accused the Democratic Party of waging “continual legal warfare” against him and Trump and of running a “sham primary.” He also said he will campaign alongside Trump until the election.
